Mix it Up!
Mix it Up!
This morning I switched up my routine a little. I usually run 3 miles, walk my 3 dogs, do laundry and clean my house on Saturday mornings. Yesterday my 27-year old son told me he was running a 5K and asked if I’d like to come along. I suspect he mostly wanted me to hold his things and take pics but when your adult children want your company you should jump on it!
I really enjoyed myself – it was a nice, cool, overcast day and it was fun to get out and see all the people, kids and dogs. It made for a nice change. And I remembered something I tell my clients – life can get boring if we do the same thing all the time.
If you struggle with stress, anxiety or depression (the big 3 in mental health) maybe you’ve gotten into a routine that’s become a bit stale. Sometimes the key to FEELING different is DOING something different. So don’t be afraid to mix up your schedule – go on a hike, take a picnic, have lunch with friends you haven’t seen in a while, try a new restaurant; the possibilities are literally endless.
I love a good set of habits as well as the next person but sometimes it pays to shake things up. Give it a shot!
